About THis class
It's the best of all STEM worlds in our new Internet of things (IOT) starter lab
One thing we’ve confirmed in our classes is that girls and boys both love hands-on exploration. It’s something they don’t get enough of in school - and it’s a critical part of the learning process.
Our IOT Starter Lab features SAM Labs: The Internet Connected Electronics Kit to harness and power this creativity. Straight from KickStarter, SAM Labs combines bluetooth-enabled circuits with drag-and-drop programming - enabling students to build just about anything and connect it to the Internet.
In this IOT Starter Tech Lab, students learn:
Principles of coding via drag-and-drop programming: students also can see and edit the code that is generated)
Fundamentals of circuits: dozens of components available for building and exploration)
How to harness the IOT - (connect their imagineered projects to Internet data
This class has NO prerequisite, so it's a wonderful class for students new to Sparkiverse or previous students in any of our classes.
Sneak Peek Inside This Class
Examples of class activities:
IOT Twitter Creature Dance: Students connect their circuit “creature” to a Sparkiverse-controlled Twitter account. When programmed words are tweeted, the contraption will dance
IOT Twitter Race: Students create a circuit “vehicle.” Tweeting of certain words power the vehicle
Lights! Camera! Actions! Students explore using the circuit sensors and flow-based programming to explore lights, alarms, and automated “photo booths”
Who will Love This class?
- Students who have big imaginations and like to build
- Students who hear about the "IOT" and want to know what that means
- Students who want to learn about coding
- Students who want to learn about electricity and circuits
