Exploring how driverless cars work by programming our robots

WELCOME TO THE SECRET WORLD OF ROBOTS, WHERE WE’LL UNCOVER WHAT TRULY MAKES THEM TICK - WITH CODE!

In today’s world, we’re surrounded by robots - from autonomous vehicles to robo-security guards. Throughout this exciting semester, we’ll quench your students curiosity for how they really work by pairing our codeable robots with your students’ imaginations.

We start with the fundamentals - what is a robot and how do robots make decisions? Students conduct experiments with our codeable Ozobot robots to see how robots make decisions and learn how to change these decisions through coding.

Then we take a look at how robots get used in the real world - whether on our roads or in our skies. We look inside the technological innovation, as well as the business aspect, of designing and building robots. The class explores the world of self-driving cars and how they actually work. How would students design a self-driving car?  Students will experiment by coding with our Thymio robots to test the ways cars might navigate a busy city.

We will then look beyond our world into the skies by exploring the challenges faced by the Mars Rover. What tasks does it need to complete and what tools does it have to accomplish them? Students will program a virtual Mars rover to autonomously explore a virtual Mars.

We wrap up the class with an introduction to AI - Artificial Intelligence. How does AI work? What is “machine learning”? Students compete in a challenge to see if they are smarter than a robot in our 20 questions with AI.
