About THis camp

it's a wacky and fun week of learning about animals, the senses, and the bay area!

We love animals. And while all the YouTube videos are cute, there’s so much more to learn about the real animal world. So we’ve created a wacky week of learning about animals, senses, and our interconnected world with hands-on activities and experiments.

Campers start each day with an exploration of the five senses. After discussing how each sense works, we discover why certain animals have specialities in each area with fun hands-on activities and experiments. In our afternoon session, we challenge campers to look at our interconnected world - specifically California and the Bay Area:

  • RAIN: Our campers have lived through one of the worst droughts in CA history and now lived the winter in rain boots. We explore the timely topic of water drought and excess - and the impact on animal ecosystems.

  • SEA: We live next door to 70 million miles of the world’s largest ocean. We dive into the role of marine life and the coast in our planet’s balance.

  • AND BEES: Our state produces half of all the fruits, nuts, and vegetables in the country. We investigate the importance of bees and pollination - how it affects their lunch boxes and our entire ecosystem.

We wrap up the week with a fun and creative project where campers create their own take-home terrarium!

sneak peek AT THE WEEK

DAILY EXPERIMENTS INCLUDE:

TASTE:  Are you like a deer?  Campers undergo a PTC test to see if they have the “bitter taste” gene.

HEARING:  Do Pill Bugs have music preferences? We put this theory to the test.

SMELL:  Did you know Ants are Super-Sniffers?  Campers try our potato/apple test and see where they stack up.

SIGHT:  We explore how bees see the world in UV light.  Campers make a homemade UV flashlight to take home.

TOUCH:  How do polar bears stay warm in the arctic? We create our own homemade blubber experiment to see how the layers create warmth.

WHO WILL LOVE THIS Camp?
